Personal Observations
Battle Droids are the 'bad guy' troops throughout the prequel trilogy, so it makes sense to put out a Battle Droid figure in the first wave of the Mission Series. But we didn't just get one, we got two! The Battle Droid that came in this set is the beige version and comes from Revenge of the Sith, although he works perfectly as an Episode I character too. The sculpt for this figure isn't new, and it has been used quite a few times over the years. The Battle Droids are actually the only figures so far in the 5POA line to be carried over from other Star Wars figure lines, but in this case, I think it makes sense. The sculpt on the figure is good, but spindly; an unavoidable problem due to the design of the movie character. He has removable limbs, head and backpack which is a fun feature. You can pretend your droids have been destroyed in combat or you could just exchange parts with an Episode II Battle Droid to give it a unique new look. The blaster can fit in a slot on the characters backpack, just like in the movies, but no matter if the blaster is in the backpack or in the figures hand, it can be difficult getting this droid to stand without toppling over. Due to the slight build of the character, this is another unavoidable problem. The Battle Droid can sit well like all good Star Wars figures should, and while I didn't initially think so, this is indeed a good Star Wars figure. |
