Personal Observations
This figure of Darth Sidious, also known as Emperor Palpatine, is based on his appearance in Revenge of the Sith, and is one of my favourite figures of this character to date. While my all time favourite Emperor figure would be the first one from 1984, this is definitely the best Episode III version that I have ever seen. Unlike most figures in this line, he features not five, but six points of articulation. His neck cannot turn due to his hood, but he make up for it by having wrists that rotate. His face is sculpted to look like he is laughing, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. In the movie, Darth Sidious usually looks enraged or has an evil grin on his face when he is fighting, but this expression doesn't really work well when he is giving orders to Darth Vader or his troops. I guess it had to be one or the other though, so I'm fine with this choice. For a robed figure, he actually sits really well, due to the split leg style robe he is sculpted in. This style was standard for all of the robed figures in the original Kenner line, and it's nice to see that it's finally back. I even tried Darth Sidious out in the Inquisitor's TIE Fighter, and he fits perfectly! Overall, I can't really find much to complain about with this figure. I'm happy! |
