Personal Observations:
This is the second Darth Vader in the 5POA line, and if I'm remembering correctly, it's the first ever figure of Darth Vader done in animated style. This Rebels version of Darth Vader looks really good, with a super glossy looking helmet and armor, and a new style of lightsaber without the flared blade. He has a pretty good range of motion for a 5POA figure, but this can be hindered quite a bit by his stiff plastic cape. He can move well enough for battle with his cape on, but if you want him to sit, the cape makes this impossible. The good news is though, if you really want Darth Vader to sit, you can remove the cape by popping off his head. This won't damage the figure, as the head and cape can be easily reattached. With the cape off, you can see a gap in Vader's neck where the cape should be, but hey, at least he can sit now and can hopefully pilot a few vehicles if he isn't too tall. One interesting detail on this figure is the hook on his belt. Ahsoka, who was included in the two pack with Darth Vader has this as well. Was there a plan at some point in development to give them unlit lightsaber hilts that could hang on their belts? It sure looks that way, but we will probably never know. Darth Vader also comes with an accessory that launches a red disc. Personally, I don't like this accessory at all, as it doesn't work very well, and may have contributed to The Force Awakens series two packs being more expensive than the older Mission Series sets. As for the figure though, he's great. You may not need him if you already have the movie style 5POA Darth Vader, but this new Vader looks so nice that you probably won't regret adding him to your collection or toy box. |
