Personal Observations
This is one of two versions of this character to be part of the launch of The Force Awakens line, the other being the 'hood up' version. This figure gives us one of our first looks at what Kylo Ren's helmet looks like with his hood down. I was surprised that we got this figure so early since it's probably one of the only possible variations he can have, but I'm glad we did because it's a great figure. Naturally, we would assume that this figure shares exactly the same sculpt as the other Kylo Ren, but I'm happy to say he does not! Apart from the torso and maybe the right arm, this figure is a completely different sculpt. Kylo Ren comes with his lightsaber, a cape that can be taken off and a piece of armor that can only fit over the figure if you remove the cape first. I doubt that this armor will appear in the movie, but it can potentially add play value. It doesn't do anything for me, but some kids might really enjoy it as they create their own non-movie based adventures for their figures. This figure sits nicely, but due to his bulky robes, he probably won't be able to pilot any vehicles. Another good feature is that he has a ball jointed neck that gives his head a wider range of motion than the standard swivel joint. Usually I prefer the swivel joint, as I think it makes for a nicer looking figure, but with helmeted characters like this it seems to work well and doesn't take away from the sculpt. Kylo's sculpt is really sharp, with all sorts of little details visible in the material of his outfit, and the silver paint on his mask is nicely done. There is also a subtle little dusting of snow added to the bottom of his cloak. This probably wasn't a necessary detail, but it's just one more little thing that helps set him apart from the 'hood up' figure. Overall, this is a really nice figure and is one that I can think of no possible improvements for.
